Celebrating God's Love, Serving in Jesus' Name

Sunday Morning Adult Learning Opportunities

WALK THROUGH THE BOOK OF FAITH... IN ONE OF OUR ADULT CLASSES!  St. Matthew has five adult classes which meet on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:15 am.  Each has a different style and topic, so you may find one that best suits your interests.  Visit each of our classes and stay with one or move around throughout the year as you desire.

FAITH JOURNEY:  Explore the Bible, both Old and New Testament, to see how it impacts our journey home.  Using the scriptures as they affect our day to day activities, we walk together on our sojourney back to God.  Joe Thornton leads the discussion with assistance by Dr. Glenn Leister.   Embark on your journey of faith in room 303.

FELLOWSHIP:  If you enjoy singing hymns, this class is for you!  Meeting in room 203, this class uses the Augsburg Bible Study to center their Bible study each week.  This fall, they will study Exodus and Psalms to learn about “The Inescapable God.”

GENERATIONS:  Find this diverse group of adults in the Lounge in the education building.  They discuss diverse topics from Bible study to current events.   Call Beth Koontz at 624-3907 or DeAnn Books at 646-9664 to find out what the class is doing this week.

IN-DEPTH CLASS:  Using DVDs and discussion this class strives to apply God’s word in our everyday lives.  This fall we will begin a series entitled “Life and Ministry of the Messiah” presented by Ray Vander Laan.  Discover Jesus.  Journey back to the time of Jesus.  Marvel at the magnificence of Herod’s palace.  Scramble among the ruins of Qumran.  And wonder at the simplicity and wisdom of Jesus’ parables.  In this set of Faith Lessons, discover how the events of Jesus’ day impacted his life, ministry, and communication.  Then let them impact yours.  Bob Marten leads this class with Joel Ruths as facilitator in room 301.

CONVERSATIONAL BIBLE:  Looking for a place to grab a cup of coffee and a danish while your child is in Sunday School?  Interested in knowing more about how the Bible impacts our daily life?  Not that familiar with the Bible?  Searching for new ways to read the Bible?  Then this is the class for you!  In 4 to 6 week segments, we’ll converse about books, people or themes in the Bible.  Jan Davis, AiM, will lead the first sessions, beginning OCTOBER 3, in room 302.  Topics for the fall are the books of John and Isaiah and “Being the Body of Christ” using readings from 1 Corinthians.

All of the above classes meet each week from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.  Mix and match, trying out one or more of the classes.  Find one you especially enjoy and invite others to join you!

Other Adult Education opportunities are available as well.  SAW includes a Bible study during the Activity time from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. every Wednesday.  Women of the ELCA has several studies that meet at various times.  Our Men’s Ministry meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month. There are often short-term studies offered on various days of the week.  Consult your Messenger or the bulletin for more information or call Jan Davis, Minister of Christian Education at 637-7101 with any questions about our Education Ministry.
